Here is the test summary of Car Mag review:

The immortal F1 was always going to be a hard act for the MP4-12C to follow. The F1 was a seminal supercar and one that is impossible to forget. It casts a dark and very long shadow over the MP4-12C. But that is unfair. The newcomer is vastly cheaper and cmpetes in a very different segment of the market.

By all measurables standards, McLaren has achieved what it set out to accomplish. But supercars are just as much about the immeasurable. And here the MP4-12C does struggle: in terms of the more superficial, subjective measures of looks (pretty, but rather generic) and sound (uninspiring, even with the sports exhaust), it left some team members cold. That said, it's sublime in the way it delivers its performance and, for the capable driver, there are lots of entertainment and satisfaction to be had. Simply put, we haven't tested a finer supercar. It's now up to Ferrari to prove us wrong.

86288 McLaren PP Portimao 70 122 1160lo(2)Après 4 mois écoulés en 2012, il est possible de faire une première courte synthèse des nouveaux essais de la MP4-12C (Sport Auto France, Motor Trend, Inside Line, Car - Afrique du Sud). Ceux-ci sont tout d'abord bien plus positifs qu'en 2011, avec cependant quelques maigres références persistantes au manque de charisme de la voiture.
En termes de performances, la McLaren est au niveau attendu dans l'ensemble, car si l'exercice du 0 à 100kph (ou 60mph) est parfois en deçà du niveau annoncé et loin des références 4WD que sont la Nissan GT-R ou la Porsche 911 Turbo, les performances sont bien plus convaincantes et saisissantes sur le 0-200kph ou le kilomètre (atteint en moins de 20 sec à 270kph). Le freinage déçoit un peu plus, par sa puissance plus que par son endurance (les valeurs relevées par la presse ne sont pas dans le haut du tableau - 106ft depuis 60mph alors que les meilleures performeuses font moins de 100ft), par contre le montage ou non de l'option céramique n'influence pas ce jugement.
Son comportement enthousiasme et se traduit dans l'ensemble par d'excellentes performances sur circuit (record absolu pour Car, en tête de classement du Figure 8 de Motor Trend, légèrement plus rapide que la 458 Italia sur circuit mouillé dans Sport Auto) et ce malgré un monte pneumatique standard dans la majorité des cas.
Les journalistes sont par ailleurs unanimes sur la qualité de l'amortissement, au niveau d'une berline familiale (Car), d'un niveau inconcevable pour une supercar (Inside Line).
J'attends donc maintenant avec impatience le reste des essais de la presse américaine (notamment Road & Track et vraisemblablement un comparatif par Motor Trend), ainsi que l'essai annoncé depuis longtemps par Auto (Italie), peut-être en mai, avec en ligne de mire le record du tour sur le circuit de Ballocco (on a le droit d'espérer !).

From the printed issue of the magazine, here is the track test report. I haven't been through the rest of the article to comment it, but overall, this seems to be a very positive review !

032_mclaren_gt_drivers_12c_feb2012.jpgWhen we made the call to tell Deon Joubert that local agents Daytona had iven the McLaren the green light for Killarney track testing, he was - shall we say - stunned.
"It's a rare privilege," he said. "It's like my birthday and Christmas rolled into one." Having studied a number of overseas track evaluations, Deon had some concerns. With the ESP in track mode, the MP4-12C will allow a lot of sliding before intervening, but it will nevertheless intervene.
ANd it has been speculated that, should the intervention occur at the same time that the driver tries to catch a slide, the two actions could conflict and result in a spin - which happened on several overseas tests with very experienced drivers behind the wheel. So, we asked the car's local distributors for the secret procedure to completly disengage the car's electronic nanny.
Operating without a safety net appeared to work fantastically from the outset. Even on the first of the two hot laps, Deon had already surpassed our previous track champion's lap time. On lap two, he then went even faster. No fuss. No frills. And importantly, no spills.
But what did he think of it? "I'm not sure," he said after exiting the car. "It is bloody fast, but there's some lag and I don't like the sound," he suggested, tugging at his beard. "Like most of the new turbocharged cars, you have to shift into the boost, rather than rev it, which I don't like very much. There's also a lightness to the steering that I have to get used to. Overall, it is quite a tricky car to gel with, but you can feel there's a lot to come out of it."
He then did a few more laps for filming purposes, got out of the car and appeared for more impressed.
"The more I drive it, the more I like it. It's a bit like the BMW M5 in the sense that there's so much more it could offer a driver should that person have the talent and the time. And it feels like it can do laps all day. The brakes are still strong and the tyres look still good, which of course is because the car is so light. A Nissan GT-R would be very, very far behind after 10 or so laps, I think. And these standard tyres squeal quite a bit, so with proper rubber the gap to the GT-R will be even bigger. It will take something special to dethrone this car."

J'ai manqué l'essai sur Direct Auto hier, mais il est disponible en replay sur le site de l'émission. Commentaires très positifs sur la voiture (5 étoiles), unanimité des journalistes en ce qui concerne le confort, partage en ce qui concerne le manque d'âme (l'un des journalistes demandant s'il fallait avoir des défauts pour qu'une voiture ait une âme).
